An original record label needs to beware of confinement within musical scenes and cultural ghettos. Single Cell assumes a grounding philosophy instead of a stylistic consensus: out of simplicity comes complexity; the one becomes the many; unity as a celebration of diversity. Our musical projects begin life as single cells. As they grow, they divide and multiply, without losing sight of their integrity. In a word, Single Cell seeks the dynamic. It celebrates the anarchic seed of music: its ability to transform, diversify, differ, inspire. Does it therefore have a political agenda? Absolutely. Single Cell is about nurturing music that moves and that celebrates movement itself: the free movement of peoples across borders; the movement of bodies, through resistance or play; the movement of the imagination and its communication across boundaries.
We seek music that resonates with some element of this philosophy, whether explicitly or implicitly. Future projects will range from producing and distributing new albums or compilations, to organising and supporting local performances and fundraisers. Our guiding ethic is mutual support. As the collective grows, so will the opportunities for sharing each others’ expertise and vision. The future is unwritten! Shape yerselves!
